In Summary:
Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti is under fire for purportedly misusing county funds on a solo trip to Dubai for COP 28, claiming association with President William Ruto. State House denies her involvement in the official delegation. The Machakos Oversight Caucus demands her resignation amid allegations of mismanagement, public fund theft, and negligence in governance.

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti is facing severe criticism for allegedly utilizing county resources for a personal trip to Dubai, falsely claiming to be part of President William Ruto’s COP 28 delegation. The Machakos County Oversight Caucus is now calling for her immediate resignation, citing continuous administration failures and documented financial impropriety.

In a press release on Monday, the Oversight Caucus accused Governor Wavinya of leaving the county during crises at the Machakos Level 5 Hospital and in solid waste management. Her reported resignation, conceding her inability to credibly lead, adds fuel to the fire.

Accusations include the alleged collection of allowances for the Dubai trip, a claim refuted by members of the Machakos County Oversight crew who attended the summit and reported not sighting her. State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed dispelled the rumors, asserting that only a few government officials accompanied President Ruto, and no governors were part of the delegation.

The controversy has triggered public outrage, prompting calls for Governor Wavinya’s resignation. The Oversight Caucus cites impending impeachment proceedings, party disciplinary actions, and a myriad of governance issues, including poor services, administrative dysfunction, and alleged corruption investigations by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission.

The Oversight Caucus Chair, Henry Carlos Kioko, emphasized the significance of Governor Wavinya’s potential ouster, describing it as a rejection of mismanagement and a decline in Machakos community status. He urged the public to join protests demanding her exit, emphasizing the need for informed decision-making in Machakos governance.

“We demand Governor Wavinya to make the right decision to resign,” stated Henry Carlos Kioko on behalf of the people of Machakos, calling for widespread public protests against Governor Wavinya’s administration.
